How It Works
How It Works
It’s natural to lose collagen as we age leading to a loss of volume in our face. We use dermal fillers consisting of a soft gel-like form of hyaluronic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in skin, to give your face and lips back their shape and structure while also smoothing wrinkles.

Frequently Asked Dermal Filler Questions
What is Dermal Filler and what is it used for?
- The Dermal Fillers used at Roddy MedSpa are Hyaluronic acids, which are a naturally occurring substance that delivers nutrients to the skin, helping the skin retain moisture and softness while also adding volume.
How long does dermal filler last?
- It varies based on what kind of filler is used, but dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6-24 months.
When do you see results after a Dermal Filler treatment?
- Results are immediate and you can enjoy your rejuvenated look right away.
What is the downtime after a Dermal Filler treatment?
- There isn’t much of a downtime. It is however recommended you avoid strenuous exercise for the next 24 hours. Avoid drinking alcohol for the next 12 hours as this may contribute to swelling and or bruising. We recommend waiting at least 1 week before getting any laser or skincare treatments.
What is the difference between Dermal Filler and Botox?
- Dermal filler was created to restore volume where it lacks or was lost (ie smile lines, cheeks, lips). Botox is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the treated muscle and preventing contraction of that muscle.
Who shouldn’t get Dermal Filler?
- You should not get Dermal Fillers if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding. You should not use these products if you have a history of multiple severe allergies, history of anaphylaxis, or if you are allergic to lidocaine.
Are there any side effects to Dermal Filler?
- After your treatment, you can experience mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the treatment site. This normally subsides within the next few days. It may be normal to feel a “firmness” at the injection site for the first few days, and then soften and settle leaving you with a natural, soft look.
Are Dermal Filler treatments painful?
- There is minimal discomfort involved but these fillers contain Lidocaine, making the process tolerable. Roddy MedSpa also uses numbing cream and ice for the comfort of our patients.
